Issue 4: Living Water

“Whoever drinks the water I shall give,” Christ tells the Samaritan woman in John 4, “will never thirst.” In a culture which often disdains the possibility of everlasting fulfillment, Christ’s words might strike us as fanciful. To hope for perfect satisfaction in anything, it seems, is too much to ask for. Yet, despite our cynicism, Christ holds Himself out to us as an abiding source of peace– one which permeates every aspect of our lives.

As we journey through both the opening of the new school year and the close of the calendar year, we’ve been drawn to reflect on the nature of the peace that Christ gives us, the “living water” which alone can offer true fulfillment. How might we discover that fulfillment even in a world so full of turmoil? And how does our understanding of Christ’s peace grow as we develop in relationship with Him?

This issue is our exploration of those themes through essays, fiction and artwork. As we journey together with the Source of that living water, we hope these pieces will spur you to prayer and reflection on God’s abiding love. May we all echo the Samaritan woman’s devotion in her response to the Lord: “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst!”

In Christ,
